About

David Wishart is a pianist, composer, and conductor who loves to make music in new and exciting ways.  In 2014 David completed a masters in composition at the University of Manchester, and he is a dedicated advocate of new music.  His own compositions have been performed across Europe, and in 2019 he attended the Darmstadt summer course for new music.  He has worked with many living composers, including as a musical assistant for the premiere of Chaya Czernowin’s Heart Chamber at Deutsche Oper Berlin.  David is proud to support his partner in life and music, Lisa Newill-Smith, on her project Women Who Composed, which researches and performs music by underrepresented women composers of the present and past.

David regularly performs in unconventional venues like disused customs offices, castles, bars, youth hostels and living rooms, and creates exciting new arrangements of established repertoire.  In 2021 he was the musical director for Sprich mit mir! at Theater Vorpommern, which created a new piece by combining Poulenc’s La voix humaine, and Menotti’s The Telephone.  David loves sharing music-making with as many people as possible and has taken part in community outreach work in schools and retirement homes.  He has years of experience teaching and coaching musicians of all ages and experience levels.  Since 2020 David has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Vorpommern and lives in Stralsund with his partner Lisa, and their puppy, Eevee.
