About the event

The state of Pontevedro is broke, but high society continues to party like there's no tomorrow. After all, appearances must be kept up. And so there is nothing wrong with a matchmaking scheme to persuade the rich widow Hanna Glawari, who is willing to emigrate, to stay - and with her her fortune. But the sought-after lady goes through life unusually self-determined.

An ambiguous play of political explosiveness, paired with Franz Lehár's lilting catchy tunes and rousing ballet interludes, ensure that this operetta has been a success since its first performance.
